A Digital Cinemasage Works Like a Big Screen

A cinema, movie theatre, or movie house, called a movie house, is a structure that contains several auditorias for showing movies for public viewing. Ordinary or community theatres show only one or a few films at a time. However, most, if not all, cinema theatres are privately owned commercial operations, catering mainly to the public. The term cinema can also be applied to a combination of several other structures such as a newsroom, sound stage, projection room and screening room. In some countries, a cinema may also include a food court.

Cinema has an enormous social and economic impact on society, because watching a film often allows people from different walks of life to interact with one another. While at a movie theatre, audiences enjoy conversations with actors and producers, share information about the film, get entertained by special effects and interact with the director. Cinema, in addition to providing a recreational atmosphere, encourages social interaction and allows audiences to create new ideas and connections that they would not have been able to make in a traditional setting.

Even before the first modern cinema, people from all ages were watching plays and showing them in their homes. In fact, the invention of the first moving picture, from the 15th century, took advantage of improvements in the production of lenses and other technology. Over the years, cinema has changed dramatically, and features like audio tracks, special effects, and wide screen formats have enhanced its quality and appeal. Many experts believe that, in the future, cinema will become a major component of public and private entertainment, replacing most traditional forms of entertainment.

Despite the fact that cinema is primarily a commercial venture, much of the influence of cinema in our lives is indirect. Movies, especially classic films, have a powerful effect on our imaginations, leading to an impressionable age and countless hours of cherished childhood memories. Even modern-day, highly technical films can leave a lasting impression, as can documentaries. Most people agree that, without films, much of what we know about the world would be distorted. Even the concept of cinema itself has changed considerably over the years; today, a large percentage of tickets sold in movie theaters are paid-for purchases, meaning that filmmakers only receive a portion of the profits from ticket sales. Some films, such as independent films or movies directed by new and upcoming filmmakers, also benefit from advertising dollars in order to produce high-quality entertainment for viewers.

Even if cinema is widely viewed by the general population, few of them consider it to be their preferred form of entertainment. Compared to the popularity of premium cable television, which reaches nearly every household in America, cinema barely registers on the national consciousness. Many people enjoy comedy movies for entertainment and relaxation, and many more to look forward to slapstick comedy flicks for something light-hearted and sentimental. Fewer people regularly attend real-life cinema events and fewer still own a video recorder. In fact, only one out of five American homes have a functioning home video recorder, according to the latest estimate. That may have something to do with the fact that once upon a time, movie theatres were big, complicated affairs, requiring elaborate sets, equipment and ancillary personnel.

Thankfully, those days are gone. Nowadays, just about any kind of movie can be viewed on your personal computer, and even when you have the internet at home, the convenience provided by modern technology allows people to view all kinds of big screen entertainment through their browsers. For most people, a personal computer is the ideal device for watching a movie: smaller screens, fewer wires and less clutter mean that viewing isn't so distracting and that the viewing experience isn't marred by a clunky television stand or by a poor movie player. Instead of spending a fortune on a movie theatre experience, individuals can enjoy movies on their computer right in the comfort of their own living room.
